As the Community Council, our role is to provide a voice for local people in the Torridon and Kinlochewe area. We exist to help support communities and express your views to the Highland Council, other public sector bodies and private agencies on matters of local interest. For example, as part of the response to Covid-19, we successfully applied for grant funding from HIE that has enabled us to provide food and fuel vouchers to those in need, masks and sanitisers to people helping others, and driver screens for the community car scheme. We have also initiated ‘local hero’ awards and are working with the TDCA on improving footpaths in Torridon.
At the start of 2020, a new team of 6 “elected” members (out of a maximum of 8) started working on your behalf. Since then, unfortunately two of those 6 have resigned and one has moved out of the area, thereby prompting the requirement for an interim election to fill the vacancies.
The remaining elected members, Caroline Hamilton, Colin Stevenson and Tom Forrest are not required to stand for re-election at the interim election, while the current co-opted members, Mat Webster and Christine Davies, are intending to apply to become elected members.
Pending the interim election, the Community Council continues to operate as usual, and our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 26 August at 8pm.
This is a busy time for the Torridon and Kinlochewe area, and we believe it is more important than ever for the Community Council to enable everyone’s voice to be heard. We would like our members to be as diverse as possible. So, whatever your skills, if you are enthusiastic and would like to help us to try and make a difference, we would be delighted to welcome you on board.
We would like to encourage anyone who lives in the area (and who is on the electoral roll here) to apply to join as an elected member. For details on how to do this, please follow this link: https://www.highland.gov.uk/info/799/elections_and_voting/643/community_councils
